Coaching Psychology

Together we will identify the issues you would like to work on, your overall aims, and the goals you want to achieve. We will explore your options, build resources for overcoming blocks, and agree on committed actions for you to take that align with your values. We will observe and evaluate your real life changes in practice to ensure meaningful progression towards your goals.
EMDR for performance
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) was originally devised as a therapeutic approach for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Over the years, EMDR has been shown to have much broader applications, including for performance enhancement. If anxiety, unhelpful beliefs, and self-defeating behaviours are holding you back from giving your best, then EMDR might be for you. Common aims include:

Enhancing focus and presence when undertaking complex, high stakes, high pressure tasks such as medical procedures

If you have a specific event coming up imminently, we can meet for a brief, focused intervention to enhance the chances of you achieving your desired result. This would involve one or two ninety-minute sessions with email or telephone follow-up.
If you have more time to prepare, or a more general development aim then we can arrange a series of sessions with greater breadth and depth, to address the here and now issue and build your resources for the future.

Our modern lives often leave little room to connect with the world around us, whether that be with the intricacies of our urban environments or the earth, seas, and skies beyond. It might surprise you to know that Birmingham is one of the greenest cities in Europe, with hundreds of parks and more than a million trees. The famously extensive canal system also offers a myriad of opportunities for urban nature walks near water. Beyond the city, the beauty of the Midlands countryside awaits.
Exposure to natural light helps to regulate our circadian rhythm, the internal body clock that guides our sleep and waking cycles. Healthy, restorative sleep and fulfilling, productive waking hours are often the things we struggle to achieve.
Being in the presence of natural landscapes, amongst trees and other greenery, and near water, boosts our mood with increased serotonin and reduces stress with lowered cortisol levels. The physical activity triggers the release of endorphins. In this more soothed, present, and connected state we are more able to think clearly, tune in to our bodily states, reflect, focus our attention, solve problems, and engage with our creativity.
